To China & Back Again
In August of 2011, I wrote, "In preparing for this venture to China, I bought a small pochade box that would fit in my carry on. After arriving here in Chongqing, I finally found a suitable tripod and a little art shop that sells various and sundry supplies, enough to get me going on some plein airadventures." It is now June of 2013 and I've landed back in the Carolinas. I have shaken off jet lag, have been spending time with people for whom I purposely came back to the States a little earlier than expected, and I've thrilled at pulling out my larger pochade box and paints, checking out new art supplies, and finally putting brush to canvas.
Right now I'm in Abbeville, SC, the town I grew up in, a little community that you might want to visit. It is rich in history, old antebellum homes, specialty shops, fabulous restaurants, and friendly people. It is a plein air painters' delight because the town square mirrors it's historical roots--brick streets and restored store fronts-- and the feel of the Old South is everywhere, especially when drama productions are live at the Opera House. I hope to get out on the streets often while I'm here.

I've especially enjoyed doing an on-site painting of the McGowan - Barksdale - Bundy House (1888).
