Squeezing out the paint and summer fun

What I love about summer!

Life on two sides of the globe involves some tight schedules and suitcase living, but one of my favorite weeks to carve out a little slice of vacation in an otherwise hectic world comes every year in late July.   My husband and I join family--sometimes sons and their families,  siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and anyone in the clan who wants to reserve a site on Lake Russell for a week of woods, water, boats and skis.  And for me, of course, paint.

7 x 5 "Best Blue at the Dock"

I wanted to record this best of the best of all seasons through plein air painting. The camera is great, of course, and what I couldn’t get on canvas, I worked to catch with a lens, but I get a great joy from the observation and tangible experience of reproducing in paint what moves my spirit in that natural world of water and woods, and, of course, people fun.

While painting the boats at the dock, I had fun meeting this young lady who came by.

And here’s a look at my week.

10 X 10 cm  "Summer Thrones"

For  those times when I only had time or space for a quick sketch, I kept my pocket-sized watercolor kit nearby.  More fun memories!

Art, for me, is more than a pastime  or hobby. It is a way of viewing  the world.
