Wisdom or Waste

'Tis the season for busy. I have spent the last week on an almost non-stop marathon of preparation for my end-of-the-year student show. Everything is now labor intensive for the big event of show casing my students' work. And then will come the pleasure of seeing it all up in lovely display, of being proud of their progress and my own growth as a teacher---and along with that comes the challenge to be, to do better next year. I am thankful for the families God has put in my art family. They enrich my life.
So until this event is a fond memory, my own art is on hold. Then I hope to take up some challenges, like that given by Lori Woodword Simons or Marc Hansen. I have realized over the years that if I do not keep improving myself, I have nothing to offer my students. That responsibility is both weighty and freeing---it frees me to paint without the guilt of thinking I am self-indulgent, but also reminds me that I can pass on artistic wisdom or waste. I press on!
